How to Choose the Perfect Engagement Ring

From solitaires to halos, learn how to pick a ring that will make every moment unforgettable.

Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most meaningful decisions you will ever make. Beyond the sparkle and the price tag, the right ring tells the story of your relationship.

Know the 4 Cs

The four characteristics that determine a diamond's quality and price are Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat weight. Of these, cut has the greatest impact on brilliance — a well-cut diamond will outshine a larger, poorly cut stone every time.

  • Cut: Excellent or Very Good is ideal for maximum light return.
  • Colour: D–F is colourless; G–J is near-colourless and offers better value.
  • Clarity: VS1–VS2 inclusions are invisible to the naked eye.
  • Carat: Balance size with the other three Cs for the best value.

Choose a Setting Style

StyleBest For
SolitaireClassic, minimalist taste
HaloMaximum sparkle, looks larger
Three-stoneSymbolises past, present, future
PavéGlamorous, loves attention

Metal Matters

Gold, white gold, rose gold, and platinum each carry a different aesthetic. Platinum is the most durable and hypoallergenic, making it ideal for everyday wear. Rose gold has become enormously popular for its warm, romantic tone.

Set a Realistic Budget

A common rule of thumb is two months' salary, but that is an old marketing myth. Spend what you can comfortably afford — the meaning behind the ring matters far more than its cost.
